My College Life
My reason for joining Clark College is to ensure that I acquire knowledge on how I can become a successful English teacher. Some of the topics I learned in COLL 101 that are likely to come in handy next quarter and beyond include finding a Library, starting life in college, and improving language skills. These topics will be very helpful in assisting me to remain successful at Clark as I work towards attaining my objectives in the following ways: having learned on how I can find the College library, I would be able to effectively do my homework, and research projects. This is because I will be in a position to find the right library that has the right resources for my assignments and projects. Apart from that, I would be in a position to conduct my studies in a conducive and serene environment away from any noises. Given the good learning environment in the libraries, I would be able to pass my exams and remain successful in Clark College even as I pursue my goals in life.
The topic on starting life in college came at the very right time. This is because there are many people who do well in high school but upon joining colleges, they do not do well. This is because given the freedom in colleges, they get into bad company and fail to achieve their objectives in life. With the knowledge I gained on starting life in college, I would be very cautious on the type of people I choose as friends. This is because people tend to forget that they come from different backgrounds, for instance, an economically disadvantaged background. They thus start interacting with persons who may not be from a similar background. This in the end makes them develop bad behaviors like stealing in an effort to lead a life that is beyond their means.
The topic on improving language skills was very critical to me. This is because English is my second language and I have heard difficulties coping with discussions with other students in the past. Because of this, I will be able to improve my English language and it will help me achieve my objective of acquiring a degree in Education and become an effective English teacher through effective consultations with both students and lecturers. I will also be able to perfect my spoken language and thus effectively teach students upon graduating from the college.
In 2020, I see myself as an administrator in the education sector either in the country or in one of the High schools in my district. This is because I intend to acquire both a bachelors’ degree program in Education at Clark College and develop my career through continuous learning. My time at Clark College will come in handy in preparing me for my immediate career goals such as teaching in high school. This will help me in my long-term professional development through practice and acquiring more knowledge. The difference between my immediate career needs and my long-term professional development goals is that I intend to acquire a Master’s degree in education. However, the foundation of all this is the knowledge I would have gained at Clark College. For this is what would act as the stepping-stone to my professional development.
