Chapter Six
Complementary and alternative medicines can be useful in addressing some conditions which may not have prescribed medical care. For example, a person struggling with anxiety, stress or addiction might find CAM to be of much better help to them than any medical treatment. However, people must be careful in treating severe medical conditions, because CAM is not a viable alternative for severe illnesses that require medical intervention.
The main advantage of CAM is that it can significantly improve a person’s wellbeing. As the world has become very fast-paced, it is common to find people feeling overwhelmed and stressed out by the many things they have to do. This can result in fatigue, stress, and anxiety. CAM has many different therapies that can relieve such conditions and improve the person’s wellbeing.
The two CAM therapies that I would be willing to try out are acupuncture and diet therapy. Acupuncture is said to relieve stress and make a person more relaxed. It sounds exciting, and I would like to try it. For diet therapy, I think it works because a lot of the diseases that people get come from the food that they eat such as to much junk and processed food. Additionally, different kinds of nutritious food can prevent many diseases. One CAM therapy that I would never consider using is traditional medicines. Many of them have no scientific backing for their effectiveness, and they can prove dangerous. A sick person focusing on the use of such medicines over proven medical treatments may also get worse.
