You can select a topic/argument of your interest. The general rule is that it has to deal with issues experienced at the US-Mexico border or beyond. You can touch on any subject such as gender or class relations, racism, folklore, ethnohistory, violence, state formation, colonialism, or post-colonialism. You are not restricted to the US-Mexico border; you can look at issues at other border spaces such as the US-Canada border, the Mexico- Guatemala border region, or any other borderland region of the world.

Your essay will be graded according to the AEFIS rubric for “Understanding & Applying Basic Anthropological Concepts” Based on this rubric; I will be looking at the following characteristics in your essays:- Understanding basic Anthropological concepts

– Application of Anthropological concepts or content – Idea or Content Development- Organization- Style

– Conventions

Some general advice:1. Start writing early, do not wait until the last week of the semester to complete this assignment.2. Review week 9 PowerPoints on writing, revising, and bibliographic conventions. 3. Review Purdue University’s OWL site for a review of citation styles.
