Alternative Energy, Renewable Energy Sources

Alternative Energy, Renewable Energy SourcesWhen the concept of alternative energy came to the attention of congress for the first time, professionals explained that this form of energy would only be attractive once the price of oil hits $35 per barrel. Currently, the cost of oil is way above $120 per barrel and some individuals are still opposed to the use of alternative energy. In most cases alternative energy comprises of renewable energy sources. Whenever the term Renewable Energy Sources pops up, many individuals tend to associate the same with the belief that it is the form of energy that can be tapped and reused now and again. Once, a journalist overheard a resident of Boston swear that the government was wrong for refusing to use renewable energy. The resident believed that she could purchase a small portion of the energy and keep renewing it hence evade paying electricity (electrical energy) bills. However, as this is in discussion herein, it will be evidently seen that this is a form of energy source that does not deplete natural resources.

Most government officials support alternative energy but believe that it would be very expensive to implement it. Nevertheless, though there could be short term expenses to install suitable infrastructure for alternative energy, not installing this infrastructure all together could turn out to be more expensive in the long run. According to studies, tapping of only a small portion of sun’s energy could satisfy more than 100% of the America’s energy needs. On the other hand, continued usage of hydro and oil energy will end up depleting most, if not all, of the resources involved. Furthermore, oil has far much more environmental implications and scientists believe that it is a major source of carbon gases.

With such climatic threats, the most appropriate form of energy is the alternative energy which comprises of nuclear, wind, sun, and geothermal. In the next few years, there could be climatic disasters owing to the continued global warming due to the increase in green house gases quantities in the atmosphere. If the world continues to use the usual forms energy, there is the risk of facing adverse climatic challenges. Hence, it is reasonable to use renewable energy like geothermal. Not only is geothermal energy clean, but it is also not exhaustible. Governments around the world should install the appropriate infrastructure suitable for the tapping of this form of energy. With the current melting of the ice caps at the poles, it is not difficult to foretell what will happen in the future. It will be that, you either succumb to the increased water levels, or pray that you will learn how to live in water.

It is evident that refusal by governments to implement proposals from professionals might lead to crises in future. Wind is a possible solver of all the problems of energy that America is currently facing. Nuclear is even a better source and estimates are that uranium reserves are many times more than what the world needs to run for centuries to come. It comes as a surprise that with such facts on the table, United States of America and other countries find it expensive to implement such reports. However, we continue to encourage policy makers to start advocating for the usage of alternative energy, not only in the country but also in other nations. This will ensure that there is a decrease in the in the amount of pollution to our environment.
